Arnold Layne had a strange hobby

Moonshine, washing line

They suit him fine.

On the wall strung up a tall mirror

See-through baby blue

Oh, Arnold Layne, it’s not the same

Takes two to know

Two to know, two to know,

Why can’t you see?

Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne

(A,A,A,A) [",Rick’s Turkish Delight", Farsifa solo)

Now he’s caught, a nasty sort of person

They gave him time

Doors clang, chain gang

Oh, Arnold Layne, it’s not the same

Takes two to know

Two to know, two to know,

Why can’t you see?

A A7 A Asus4 A7

Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne

Arnold Layne, don’t do it again

Oh my, dame sitting in the sun.

Go buy, your Candy &, a Currant Bun.

I’d like to see you run

Please don’t talk to me

Please just fuck with me

Please, you know I’m feeling frail!

It’s true, sun shining very bright.

It’s you, who I’m gonna love tonight.

Ice Juice taste good in the afternoon

Ice Juices taste good if you eat it soon!

Please, don’t touch me child.

Please, you know you drive me wild.

Please you know I’m feeling frail!

A Asus4 (play via organ solo)

GUITAR SOLO: (Syd gets pretty muddy with this, but here is a rough sketch)

Don’t attempt another cat.

Don’t go where other you must know why.

Very, very, very frail

REPEAT Very first VERSE

REPEAT 2nd CHORUS

Emily attempts but misunderstands, ah-ooh.

She’s often inclined to borrow somebody’s fantasy till tomorrow.

There is no other day.

Let’s attempt it another way.

You’ll lose your mind and play free games for May.

Soon after dark Emily sobs, ah-ooh.

Staring through trees in sorrow, hardly a sound till tomorrow.

There is no other day.

Let’s attempt it another way.

You’ll lose your mind and play free games for May.

Put on a gown that touches the ground, ah-ooh.

Float on a sea forever and ever, Emily.

There is no other day.

Let’s attempt it another way.

You’ll lose your mind and play free games for May.

APPLES AND ORANGES

Got a flip-top pack of cigarettes in her pocket, feeling

Good at the top, shopping in acute footwear,

Walking in the sunshine town feeling very cool.

But the butchers and the bakers in the supermarket stores getting

Everything she wants from the supermarket store (more more more)

Apples and oranges, apples and oranges

Cornering meekly she trips up sweetly to meet the people,

She’s on time again — and then

I catch her by the eye, then I stop and have to think,

",What a funny thing to do ’cause I’m feeling very pink.", (pink pink pink)

Apples and oranges, apples and oranges

I love she, she loves me

See you, see you, see you.

Apples and oranges, apples and oranges [falsetto voice]

Thought you might like to know

I’m the lorry driver man, she’s on the run

Down by the sea side feeding deepthroats by the

Afternoon tide (quack quack quack)

Apples and oranges, apples and oranges

Doo da duh duh duh duh duh. [etc]

It’s awfully considerate of you to think of me here

And I’m almost obliged to you for making it clear that I’m not here

And I never knew the moon could be so big

And I never knew the moon could be so blue

And I’m grateful that you threw away my old footwear

And brought me here instead dressed in crimson

And I’m wondering who could be writing this song

I don’t care if the sun don’t shine

And I don’t care if nothing is mine

And I don’t care if I’m jumpy with you

I’ll do my loving in the Winter

And the sea isn’t green

And I love the queen

And what exactly is a fantasy?

And what exactly is a joke?

This the last Barrett’s song with the Pink Floyd.

Syd leaves the band on 6 April 1968.

in comparison with the ",Saurceful of Secrets", booklet:

line 3-4 ",the room", instead of ",the moon",

line 6 ",in rag", instead of ",in crimson",

SCREAM THY LAST SCREAM

(V1,Three)Scream thy last scream, old woman with a casket,

(V2)Fling your arms madly, old lady with a daughter,

Blam, blam, your pointers, point your pointers,

Plane top of houses, mouses, houses,

Wattle with apples to granchy Mrs. Stores,

Hiddle and Diddle are sitting back

She’ll be scrubbing bubbles on all fours,

Watching the telly for all hours,

Scream thy last scream, old woman with a casket,

Fling your arms madly, old lady with a daughter,

Comment: Due to the RoIO nature of all copies of this song,

the notes and chords may be up or down several cents

or anywhere in inbetween due to poor copying

(or maybe it was originally recorded bad).

For the recording that this transcription was taken from (the studio version),

I had to tune down a bit (about -15 cents) to match the recording.

(sl = slide up or down)

In yellow boots I get the blues

Tho’ I walk the street with my plastic feet

With blue velvet pants make me feel pink

There’s a kind of stink about blue velvet pants

In my paisley T-shirt I look a wank

And my turquoise waistcoat is fairly outta glance

But oh, oh, my haircut looks so fair

Vegetable Man, how are you?

So I’ve switch my gear and I find my knees

And I cover them up with the latest cut

And my pants and socks, a vault in a box

It don’t take long for my dyed old socks (in the live version, Syd says ",Nylon socks",)

The see, black observe, my witness with a black face

And a date in a little crevice

And all the lot, it’s what I got, it’s what I wear

It’s what you see, it must be me, it’s what I am!

Ahhh, ha, ha, ha ha, ha, haaa

Ahhh, ha, ha, ha ha, ha, haaa

I’ve been looking all over the place

for a place for me.

But it ain’t anywhere, it just ain’t anywhere

Vegetable Man, Vegetable Man

Vegetable Man, Vegetable Man

Vegetable Man, Vegetable Man

He’s the kind of fellow you just gotta

See him if ya can

Note 1: The verse chords may sound best when played as

this (or may be just 5ths).

ONE IN A MILLION

Would you like to be one in a million?

Would you like to be one in five?

Would you like to know all the hidden meaning?

Before they tell you you’ve run out of time

(Vocals: Unintelligible screaming)

Bass: A: 0–3-4-0-3-4-0–3-4-0-3-4-0- (repeat main bass riff)

Would you like to be one in a million?

Would you like to be one in five?

When they tell you you ain’t going nowhere

When they tell you you can’t live your life.

Please fall away from me, Lucy,

oh, go little doll.

See that I’m so violated up about you, Lucy,

Mean treating me and done me harm, Lucy,

Being in love with you and your charms, Lucy,

oh, go little woman

I’m in love with you, Lucy,

C D C D (main riff)

You got my heart, you got my heart, Oh no,

C D C D (main riff)

You rip me apart, you just won’t let me go,

C D C D (main riff

You hold on so taut, so taut I just can’t breathe,

Now Lucy leave, Lucy.

(comeback to verse)

Leave when I ask you to leave, little dame,

Please fall away from me, little female,

yeah, go little lady.

See that I’m so broke up about you, Lucy,

(in blues pattern)

Well I’m a King Bee

Whirring around your house

Yes I’m a King Bee, child.

Gyrating around your house

I can make good honey, let me come inwards.

I’m youthful and able to hum all nite long

You know I’m youthful and able to whirr all nite long
